• The work on the entry must be done by 4-H member since the 2007 Fair.
• 4-H'er may enter only one unit, but may enter all classes within said unit.
• The decision of the judges is final.
• Table Setting exhibit for Unit III must be packed to prevent breakage or loss. Each item in the display must be labeled. Packing box must be clearly labeled with exhibitors name and county so that exhibit can be returned to box for pick-up. We are not responsible for loss or breakage. Please be aware of this when selecting items for exhibit.
• Refinished item refers to an item already in use which has been given a new finish or paint or a type of seal.
• Exhibits in Units III, IV and Changing Spaces must include a one-page, front only narrative or the project will be DISQUALIFIED.
UNIT I
887 Color Collage (Select from activity 3 from Unit I project book.) This must be mounted on mat board.
888 Texture Collage or Rubbing - select from Activity 1 or 2 from Unit I project book.) This must be mounted on mat board.
889 Natural Finish (grain shows through) applied to small wood object with straight lines. Judging emphasis will be on the finish, not the construction. Examples include bowl, tray, cutting board, game board, and small box.
890 Simple, small cloth article (maximum size: 36”X36”) with no machine stitching. Examples included knotted pillow, (no applied design) draped valance with accompanying photo showing end result. Unacceptable: purses, tote bags, backpacks, duffle bags.
891 Simple, small cloth article requiring machine stitching. Examples include plain pillow (no applied design), fringed table cloth, place mats and napkins, laundry bag, valance. Unacceptable: purses, tote bags, backpacks,
duffle bags.

UNIT II
894 Refinished wood item. Should have straight lines with no elaborate carvings or turnings. Examples include foot stool, children's furniture, small box, tray, picture frame, book shelves, and plant stand.
895 Small article made of cloth. Examples include hemmed table cloth or table runner, wall hanging, pillow, and flat hemmed curtains. Unacceptable: purses, totebags, backpacks, duffle bags.
896 Desk Set, including three or more items. Examples: blotter pad, pencil holder, letter box, notebook, etc.
UNIT III-EXHIBITS MUST INCLUDE BOTH ARTICLE AND DOCUMENTATION SPECIFIED
897 Accessory for the home with description, sketch, or photo to show how the accessory is used in the home and how the design and colors fit in with the other furnishings and color used in the home. Examples include stitchery or appliqué wall hanging, latch hook items, pillow with applied design (stitchery, appliqué or other media), rug, picture in appropriate frame and ready to hang.
898 Table setting, to include centerpiece, plate, beverage container(s) and table linen appropriate to the theme or event chosen by 4-H member. No silverware please. Information card accompanying exhibit must include specific theme or event for which the table setting was planned. A color photo of the place setting as to how it would appear on the table must be included. Items may or may not be made by the 4-Her.
899 Refinished furniture (stripped, sanded, and stained, painted or varnished), with a "before" picture attached. Examples: rocker, table, large chair or chest.
900 Recycled or low cost furnishing item created as part of your decorating plan. Information card accompanying exhibit should include materials used, cost and time involved in project, and final use for item.
UNIT IV-EXHIBITS MUST INCLUDE BOTH ARTICLE AND DOCUMENTATION SPECIFIED
901 An accessory for the home made with original or adapted design and information card, which includes description of how and where item is used in the home. Examples include latch hook item; pillow with stitchery design, wall hanging of natural dyed yarns or drawing with mat and finished or refinished frame.
902 Heritage item refinished, restored, or made by the 4-Her with information on the history or meaning of the item to the member and how it us used in the home. Examples include antique or collectible furniture, memory box, scrap book of family history (Note: Scrapbook needs to reflect family history/home/house/farm/land of three or more generations), quilt with heritage design, wall hanging showing family tree.
903 Purchased article selected by 4-H member to solve a home decorating problem. Exhibit must be accompanied by a folder describing problem to be solved, alternatives considered in the solution of the problem, how the plan was carried out, resources used (time, money) and member's evaluation of the results (satisfaction with purchased article, how article is used in the home). Photos illustrating the before and after effect are required. Examples include wall decoration, lamp, vase, storage item, desk accessories, bedspread, rug, table linens, pillow, and draperies. A minimum of five one-sided pages must be provided.
904 A cloth article made by the 4-H'er showing a major home improvement accompanied by a written description and picture/photo to show how project is used in home, other colors used in room, time and costs involved, and care required. Photos illustrating the before and after effect are required. Examples include bedspread, quilt, window treatment, and boxed bench pad. Unacceptable: purses, tote bags, backpacks, duffle bags.
905 Furniture, which has been refinished, reupholstered, recovered, recycled, reused or remodeled. Exhibit to include article and information on original condition, work required in completing project, time and cost involved, and how item is used in home. DO NOT INCLUDE NEWLY CONSTRUCTED FURNITURE.
906 Design Experience. Exhibit could include a self-determined design experience including article(s) made or purchased by 4-H member. Examples include a plan for redecorating a room, an accessory item showing original design of 4-H member, notebook with pictures and descriptions of architectural styles used in Kentucky homes, or other design experience as they relate to the home.
907 Heritage Experience-Restoration of furnishings (could include caning, reseating, etc.), study of furniture styles, study of old buildings in community, learning a heritage or craft skill... especially from an older family member or friend. Exhibit must be accompanied by a folder listing the 4-Her's objectives and what was done. Example, if an item was refinished or refurbished, include who it belonged to and the significance to the family. If a study was made of furniture styles, include pictures and history. If a study of buildings was done in the community, include slides or pictures describing the architectural significance, period of history, uses of the buildings. If it is a learned skill, exhibit the item made and describe how interest was stimulated and how you will use item and skill.
908 Major Home Improvement. Exhibit must include information describing project, whether project was an individual project or a group or family project, skills learned by member, time and cost involved. Include before, during, and after photographs, if possible. Examples include storage item, notebook or folder describing or showing activities in do-it-yourself project (painting the house, wallpapering, basement remodeling, etc.)

(remember: 1 square=1foot) including a door(s),window(s), and furniture. Print in color or black and white. Minimum size 8 1/2 X 11 inches. Maximum size 11 X 17 inches. Must be mounted on mat board, or foam core board. Documentation should include answers to these questions:
1. Is the room you have drawn similar to a room in your house? What are its dimensions? How much square footage is in the room?
2. Did you have problems with the web site? If so, how did you solve them?
3. Tell about how you worked with the items in your room such as walls, windows, doors and furniture.
910 House Floor Plan. Use any software program to draw a house plan including bedroom(s), bath(s), living space, garage, door(s) and window(s). Print in color or black and white. Minimum size 8 1/2 X 11 inches. Maximum size 11 X 17 inches. Must be mounted on mat board or foam core board. Documentation should include answers to these questions:
1. Does your floor plan resemble the house you live in? If not, did you look at other floor plans for inspiration? What type of roof does your house have?
2. How have you considered how a family member who is disabled (for instance, a wheelchair user) might get around in your home?
3. Discuss any problems you had with the web site and how you solved them. Tell how you worked with additional items required to create a floor plan.

Actual fabric, wall, and floor samples are preferred; however, if you can not find any, you may use a website to download color copies or substitute magazine or scrapbook paper to represent these items.
