Nitro Demolition Derby and the Kenton County Fair will team up to present the Mini-car Derby on Monday, July 14 @ 8:00 P.M. and back on Tuesday, July 15 @8:00 P.M. for the Full-Size Car Derby. The Demo Derby is one of the biggest events at the county fair. The hard hitting, fast paced action is bound to keep you on the edge of your seats. The Demo Derby will consist of heats, consolation, and feature events. There will be big cash prizes and trophies. This is the third year for the big points system! Local participants are needed! RULES FOR NITRO DEMOLITION DERBY
Nitro Demolition Derby is promoted as an unusual spectator attraction, and while the following rules and Regulations do not imply nor guarantee safety, they are set up in the interest of safety by the promoter and track where the event is being held. The driver and his crew are subject to and must obey the following: EACH DRIVER MUST:
1. Be of legal age of 18 years or older
2. Have a valid senior driver’s license
3. Fill out an entry
4. Furnish car (ownership proof may be required)
All persons must read and sign the liability release sheet and receive a pit pass to be permitted in the pit, emergency vehicle or track areas. The track or promoter reserves the right to approve or reject any or all entries, and contestants of NITRO DEMOLITION DERBY are not employees of the track, organization, Fair Association or the promoter of NITRO DEMO DERBY. The promoter, track owner or Fair will not be responsible for any cars, parts or personal property at any time.
GENERAL RULES
Preparation of Car-Remove #1 through #3 before arriving at Fairgrounds:
1. All glass including windshield, side & rear windows, head & tail lights. Rolling windows down and breaking in doors is not permitted.
2. Chrome molding strips and the bottom portion of rear seat. Total rear seat in station wagons. Any sharp protruding fins or dangerous objects-mash down or cut off.
3. Cars must have hoods. Steel bar may be attached from firewall to top to protect the driver. The hood must have a hole cut approximately 8” square or diameter over the carburetor. Hoods, trunk lids, and tailgates may be fastened down in 6 places using only 2 strands of wire thru each hole. (Wiring must be from sheet metal to sheet metal with no wires around bumpers.) Remove hood latches. No welds on hoods, trunk lids or tailgates. No car will be permitted on the track without a hood or doors.
4. Do not tie down hoods, trunk lids or tailgates until car has been inspected.
5. Cutting fenders for clearance only is OK. Ends of bumpers may be cut off.
6. The following are not permitted: special bumpers, reinforcements, fabrications or trailer hitches. No studs or screws in rim to hold tires. No truck, paddle, machinery or bar tires. Only air in tires. Wheel weights must be removed. Double tires OK on front or rear. Miximum tire size 750-15 or 245.75.
7. Leaf springs should remain stock. If they are rebuilt due to weak or broken leaves, do not exceed a maximum number of 8 with no truck leaves or main overs. Springs must flex with a working shackle. No coil spring car converted to leaf springs allowed.
8. Welded solid or chained down engine mounts are recommended. If replacing body mount bolts, they should be no larger than ½” diameter. Washers no larger than 3”.
9. Original Body mounts must be used if they are OK. Replacement body mounts no taller than 2” are allowed.
10. Radiators and transmission coolers must remain in original position or be removed. Coolant: Water only, no antifreeze.
11. Dash bar, sissy bar & bar behind the seat permitted. No cages or X-bracing.
12. All doors must be fastened shut with wire or straps or welded for driver’s safety. If welded, now welds above bottom of window.
13. Stock gas tank must be removed. Recommended is a portable tank securely fastened to the floor in the back seat and covered. Connect to fuel line with steel or rubber fuel line, (no plastic hose). Electric fuel pumps are permitted, but must be mounted securely inside a tank with a cut-off switch installed on all electric fuel pumps. Four gallons of gas allowed per heat.
14. Two 12 V batteries are now allowed. No 24V systems. Batteries may be moved to any position in the lower section of the car, but they must be securely fastened and covered.
15. Front doors should be painted white for safety and numbering. Special numbers are permitted. No profanity will be allowed on any portion of the car.
16. It is recommended that the driver’s door be reinforced inside, with steel bar, angle iron or pipe. Length not to exceed 8” on either end of driver’s door. Cement is permitted only in the driver’s door. Passenger door bar allowed-max flat steel ¼” X 2”.
17. A strong wire or nylon mesh screen in recommended in the drivers window and windshield area. Plexiglass is permitted in driver’s windshield.
18. Each car must be signed in and inspected at the track at least one hour before show time.
19. Auto must be swept clean. No junk, tires, wheels, metal parts, etc. allowed in car.
Running
1. Safety belt and Z-90 approved helmet & goggles or face shield are required and must be worn at all times when on the track.
2. No drinking of alcoholic beverages in the pit, track or emergency vehicle areas. Any drivers or pit persons under the influence of alcohol or drugs will be immediately disqualified and removed from the grounds.
3. Boundaries of the arena must be observed. Deliberately hitting an opponent’s car that is on the logs is not permitted. Cars on logs may be disqualified if they are a safety hazard.
4. No deliberate head-on collisions or deliberately hitting opponent’s driver’s door.
5. Vehicles must have dependable 4-wheel brakes at all times. If your brakes fail during a heat, do not mover your car. Do not disconnect rear brakes.
6. Car will be disqualified if it catches fire, the driver’s door opens or the hood is lost during a heat.
7. One minute time limit is enforced by track officials for re-starts and making contact with another car. Hits must be aggressive. Simple contact within the time limit does not constitute combat and could be considered sandbagging.
8. No “buddying” permitted on the track (two or more divers ganging up on an opponent)
9. All drivers and pit persons must attend the driver’s meeting before the show.
10. Unsportsmanlike conduct will not be tolerated and will be grounds for disqualification, and barring from future derbies. Drivers are responsible for the actions of their crew members.
11. All cars are to be removed from the fair grounds or track following the show or they will become the property of the track or fairgrounds and the officials will have them removed. (Unless otherwise specified at the driver’s meeting) Titles must be turned in for all cars left for junk.
12. A $25 protest fee is required to protest another car. Protest must be made at least 15 minutes before the first heat.
13. A fire extinguisher is recommended at close reach in the driver’s compartment. Additional safety regulations may be imposed depending on the track.
14. Officials reserve the right to re-inspect any car at any time.
MINI-CAR DERBY RULES
1. Mini-cars only, no mid-size cars
2. Type of mini car-any 4 or 6 cylinder vehicle with a wheel base of 102” or less, with a weight of 2900 pounds or less. Specifications must be from NADA book before stripping. No four wheel drives, jeeps or fairmonts.
3. The mini-car derby will be composed of individual heats and one Championship Feature with trophy and cash prizes to the three winners (last three running cars) of each heat, and a trophy and cash prizes to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd winners of the Championship Feature.
4. Rules are subject to change without notice. Decisions of the official judge are final.
REGULAR CAR RULES
1. Type of regular car-any American made stock hardtop automobile or station wagon is allowed. No trucks, convertibles, hearse, limousines, or pre-1967 Chrysler Imperials are allowed.
2. The Regular car derby will be composed of individual heats and one Championship Feature with trophy and cash prizes to the three winners (last three running cars of each heat, and a trophy and cash prizes to the 1st, 2nd & 3rd winners of the Championship Feature.
3. Rules are subject to change without notice. Decisions of the official judge are final.
