Rules

Creative Writing

Beginning 2023, all previous exhibitor numbers will be obsolete.  Every person who plans to enter projects in the Open Exhibit Building must obtain a new exhibitor number by calling the Kenton County Extension Office at 859-356-3155 and requesting a new number.  Numbers can also be obtained day of drop off, but obtaining the number ahead of time will streamline the entry process.  If you enter projects using your old number, you will not receive premiums.

Rules:​

  • All entries must be submitted with a completed Entry Form and an Exhibitor Number.

    • Do NOT put your name on the entry itself, but only on the entry form

    • Exhibitor numbers can be obtained:

      • By calling the Kenton County Cooperative Extension Service Office (859-356-3155) OR

      • In person at the Kenton County Fairgrounds on Sunday, July 9th, from 1p.m. to 3 p.m.

  • Entries may be made by:​

    • Email (PREFERRED): send to kentonfairwriting@gmail.com (must be received by Sunday, July 9th, at 3 p.m.)

    • In person at the Kenton County Fairgrounds on Sunday, July 9th, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.​

  • Entries should have been written between July 1, 2022 and July 9, 2023.

  • Maximum word length for all entries is 1,500 words.

  • Only one entry per category.

  • Contest is open to all residents of Kentucky, not just Kenton County.​

Results

Results:

  • Judging is based on originality, creativity, and language skills.

  • Judges’ decisions are final.

  • Judging results will be emailed to all participants by Wednesday, July 12, at 9 p.m.

  • Ribbons and checks for winning entries may be picked up on Sunday, July 16, from noon to 2 p.m. at the Kenton County Fairgrounds.

  • Winning entries will be available to view at the Durr Branch of the Kenton County Public Library in Independence, KY, after the fair has ended.
